The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct direction.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed focus, aiming to address community desires.
A Pattern of Key Hires
This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. Following a period of conversations, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His management and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving him soon. We are all excited to continue observing the evolution of the game in the months to come.
David
Experience of the New Head
Brinkman currently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Concept
The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a public demo. Then, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary reads. "Face the rivals with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that shift every session. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and pray your group can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."
The game has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but fans can anticipate further news as production progresses.
