Government Official Says MoD Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defence minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the potential threats posed by Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been advised to refrain from discussing classified information in any cars.

Security Guidance for Defence Staff

During a recent interview on a radio station, a defence minister commented on reports that MoD staff have been told not to discuss secret material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He explained that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that security is a concern in all modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their car, to avoid having discussions at a classified level in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing risks of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to switch off buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been shining lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

The broader security situation underscores the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official activities, including transport usage to discussions practices.
